Buzzing, family-friendly barbecue spot by the river with smoked and grilled meats, shakes and beers.
Very helpful staff. Spent a lot of time with us advising what dishes contained allergens and what modifications could be made. They have a good gluten free menu. The food was amazing. We were even given samples of the food as my face must have looked far from convinced when they told us the brisket was delicious. And it was! And I don't like meat. Only down side was we found that the "magic dust" on the tato tots was quite garlicky which was a bit much for us.

Very American, which was good, as the food was entirely that. Bit noisy, as lots of kids, but it fitted the atmosphere. Food excellent, some better than others. Brisket superb, great fajitas and burgers, pulled pork was mixed in with beans, which wasn't so nice.

We had a great meal here. The drinks were great, food was amazing & the staff were super friendly. We came on a Sunday evening & it was really busy but we only had to wait 15 minutes before we were seated, the service was quick too. Would highly recommend!

Absolutely loved this restaurant and there was always a string of people queueing to get in which is always a good sign of a popular venue. We were lucky enough to visit week commencing 21 March when the weather was fabulous so we could sit and have a drink outdoors. We visited again the following day and sat in the gorgeous beer garden and then had some food. The menu is just amazing, so many unusual and tasty options to choose from in a newspaper style menu. We sat in the beer garden part of the restaurant which was lovely and spacious, loved the atmosphere, loved the decor, Loved the food and drink, especially the amazing milkshakes, and the staff were really helpful and looked after us well. Would definitely visit again when next in Chester and would highly recommend, even if you just go for a relaxing drink in the beer garden On a warm sunny day!

Incredibly fantastic especially service and also food was amazing. The meal for 2 of us, we ordered full rack rib which was tender and the staff recommended me about selecting half flavours. So, I could have 2 combination of flavours, herb and spicy. He let me taste a selection of sauces which was fantastic from light spicy to the hottest. I loved the vibes too as it was next to the River Dee. I really appreciated the food and service.

Amazing place with an American atmosphere. Authentic, delicious meat, full of flavours and we can't wait to visit this place again. The only downside is lack of parking

Delicious!! For the amount of food we received it was worth the price. Only i didn’t like the house slaw. Worth a visit

Lovely restaurant. This is the first time I have been to the Chester one, and I think it's the best one I've been to. It's in a lovely location on the river.Great menu, brisket was fantastic as usual, and the starters and desserts were also top drawer.Staff were friendly and helpful, and we had a really pleasant meal.

Delicious food! I had the bird and the beast burger, and my partner had the go big or go home burger. The chips were lovely too (you know they’re good when you don’t need sauce with them) We had a side of Cajun onion rings which were super tasty! The only let down for me (and why I’ve given 4 stars) was the dessert, we had the cookie sandwich and it wasn’t great. The cookies were hard and not half as much filling as shown on the menu, so not sure if it was just a bad batch or one to swerve.Lovely place into eat, in a nice setting, good service and reasonably priced too. I’ll definitely go back.

Wow! What a place! We booked a table for 5pm and it was already pretty crowded when we arrived. The atmosphere is quite lively which can be a bit confronting and overwhelming if you have Autism or Sensory problems. The staff are extremely helpful and very friendly. The food is divine! We had a platter and it feeds 2-3 easily. The drinks are wonderful. Our favourite things were the corn dogs, the baby back ribs and the brisket. Would definitely recommend Hickorys Smokehouse! I would say that this is a special occasion restaurant rather than an everyday eat place, because the prices are a bit higher, but saying that, the quality of the food, the staff, the decor are all top quality so it's worth every penny. Can't wait to visit again!

Our second visit to Hickory Chester, and it was even better than the first!Great service, friendly staff to greet us, and the food was delicious. Brisket burnt ends and crispy chicken tenders to start, followed by brisket and pulled pork for mains. The meat was absolutely amazing, and the sauces just enhanced it all. YummyIt also sits right on the river, so when the weathers nice, outdoor seating provides a lovely view!Definitely recommend if your visiting Chester, you won’t regret it!

Love the Hickory Pale ale that’s brewed for this restaurant. It’s the perfect balance of malty & hoppy, with notes of caramel.Friendly service. Great fries. Pretty good pulled pork served with beans and nice crispy pickles. Lovely spot to sit outside on their terrace with a view of the River Dee with an eclectic assortment of music playing, including American country.

Great American style BBQ is so hard to find in the UK and Hickory's is everything it needs to be. A huge and varied menu of deliciously rich meaty treats will leave you stuffed and satisfied. Good kids options and the kids cinema is a nice touch too. Staff were great and the wooden cabin vibes makes for a pleasant atmosphere. Would also be a great place to stop in for watching sports. 👍🏻

Attended the princess brunch today. The place was packed upon arrival, but this didn't deter from the attentive staff and a warm welcome. Our table wasn't ready, but they immediately found me another one. The staff seemed happy to be there despite it being a roasting hot day.The food was lovely, varied selection and the drinks were great too. The little touches, such as popcorn and bottles of water and colouring for my little girl, were appreciated. My little girl enjoyed being in the cinema with her popcorn whilst we waited for food to arrive ( which was super quick)We travelled over an hour to come to the event, and I would definitely book Hickory's for our next special outing. It was brilliant. The princess event was fabulous. The 3 princesses were amazing and very interactive and in character at all times. The only slight "what could have been better" would be information regarding when the princesses were performing. We missed both performances, which was a shame.

Everything was perfect. All the foods and drinks we has was so nice. I would recommend the peach ice tea!The staff was very polite and helpful checking on us often to see how everything was and if we needed anything. The free popcorn was also a nice touch!

Me and my partner went out for dinner here after it was highly recommended by some friends of mine.We were not disappointed. The food was incredible. It's probably the best food I've had out in a long time. The little touches were great. For example, once we were given our menu, we were given a small bag of popcorn while we decided what we were going to have.We shared the southern fried chciken to start. I personally had the sharer plater for 1 (as pictured). You get plenty of food and a nice selection of all the meats. My personal favourite is the pulled pork and the jalapeño sausage. Unfortunately, I was too full for dessert, but they also look incredible. There are plenty of drinks options ranging from milkshakes through to their own grape soda (amazing).I would recommend coming here you should not be disappointed. I would advise you to book a table in advance to save any disappointment as it is busy.

Had an amazing night, the food was amazing, the atmosphere was wonderful, and the service was outstanding! The staff at this restaurant are so lovely! Safe to say this is the best experience of going out for a meal we have ever had, specifically due to our wonderful waitress Casey, and manager Cherry that made our experience all the better, with their positive attitude! We mentioned once that we enjoyed scrapbooking and were planning to document our trip and we came home with enough to fill an entire book about our trip to hickory’s! Thank you Casey for making the experience so memorable! This was the first time we went out for a meal and felt as though the staff were trying to make out experience everything it could be, they really went above and beyond! If you ever have to queue up to wait for a table, stay in the queue, it’s worth the wait :)

The food is incredible ! Our waitress was lovely, she also provided a little box with my leftovers so I was able to take them home. The peach iced tea is also the best iced tea I’ve ever tried. The only reason I give this four stars is because we arrived having to wait for our table for just over twenty minutes besides having a reservation. I guess that tells you it’s good though!

Where do I start? This is the closest thing to American BBQ that I've had from my time in England so far. The meat is all smoked the American way and has the depth that all the flavors are meant to have. The portions are way more filling than we were prepared for. Genuinely just 10/10 no complaints, if you want American/Texas BBQ in England this is the spot.

We were there with a group of 11 people. After two rejections of workers wanting to give us a few tables, the third time we asked another worker, somebody realized that would be missed turnover and we were able to eat there. Food was good, location is nice.

Service was outstanding right from booking table through to paying the bill. Food was 10/10. Everything tasted fresh and as it should be for a smokehouse. Great value food and great family atmosphere. The staff were very attentive. All round good night out.

Popular eaterie and was very busy, even on a Wednesday, so recommend booking in advance. We had to wait about 15 mins for a table. Food was fine and the staff were very helpful, letting us taste the hot dip to see if it was too hot and also giving us a taste of the beers to pick our favourite. All in all a good night out.

Tasty food and great service. Atmosphere was very quiet but it was in the afternoon and it had been raining heavy but soon cleared up.(I was having nostalgic memories of frequenting when it was the Old Orleans restaurant many moons ago.

Absolutely amazing food. I mean hands down beautiful, however as it is very popular it gets very crowded and claustrophobic and hot. While I utterly enjoyed the meal, I was very happy when I finally got out

Great food, great service and great atmosphere! Hickory's never disappoints no wonder my whole team always want to go here for the staff meals.

The whole experience I couldn't fault really, it was only at the end that we got told our table was needed in 15 minutes when we had only just finished our desserts really that let it down. The service until then was fantastic, our waitresses were awesome, we helped out with their bingo, so if you are there sometime, see if there's anything on their lists you can help with, it adds fun to the conversation and helps out your servers. Food came quick, order was accurate and we were attended well for drinks and condiments, just there isn't any salt or pepper on the table, so just go ask for it at the centre.Food wise, absolutely beautiful! From the garlic pretzel, to the sharing platter or meat it was all so delicious, so well cooked, I couldn't even get my fork through the brisket without it just falling apart! Perfect texture, taste and amount for two people! My partner had the Mac and cheese as she is veggie and she also said it was beautiful, aswell as my friends rating their food very highly. I'd like to see more vegetarian options, however it's more than other places we've been.We all had dessert, 1 having waffles which were apparently really nice but hard to finish after a sharing meat platter, so think ahead! And 3 of us had the ice cream, 100% go for rocky road, it's delicious, could be bigger but cute pots and a nice way to end the meal.I'd say the meat and the onion rings are something I'd highly recommend aswell as the cloudy lemonade, nice and refreshing to balance out the meal!Overall, cost around £240 for 4 people, 3 courses and drinks, and they automatically add tip on which was £15. Id definitely go back, but be aware, if you are looking to book, 1) it books up quick and 2) you get a set amount of time, that's the only reason I took a point off for service.

It was past lunch time, so our guide brought us down off the Roman wall to this restaurant. As a United States cowboy, this restaurant reminded me of home. I had the cowboy steak. We also had the "3:00 a.m. Mac and Cheese, with deep fried chicken and maple syrup. "Delicious. Service was great, and the view of the river was amazing.

Good place, overall it was a really good experience, I’ve never had such as a delicious ice tea before as here. Food was a bit overfried, oily and salty , but still enjoyable. Free water and popcorn before meal.Staff is really friendly. Cleanliness wasn’t spot on and the place has a dress code that people didn’t really seem to follow. Menu is really nice, not the usual “boring” one, you can choose from many things that you can’t get anywhere else, so we will definitely be back. 😊

“Go big or go home” burger was mad good! Loved the atmosphere as well right next to the river surrounded by trees growing in the garden where you sot and eat, nice staff, and good parking near by. Definitely coming back or visiting another of their restaurant.

I don't often leave reviews but this place warranted it. First things first the food and service was incredible, no upcharge on drinks to say how nice the food was and the menu was amazing. We got the £60 platter between two and waddled home very content! However the service was even better than the food and they really made us feel welcome! Never left a restraint so content and looked after. Well done! We will be back!

We loved it here! The food was amazing, the service was fab, the staff were all really friendly and I really appreciated the manager coming to speak to me and show me that latex free gloves are used as I have a severe allergy. We had some food left over because we order the sharer and the staff were kind enough to pack it up for us to take away.

We came here on a early Saturday evening. Bottle of water and some popcorn came straight out to us which was a nice touch. We ordered nachos for starters which were actually really tasty. The mains we ordered was 1/2 an ounce of beef brisket and an Oklahoma burger. They were pretty average and to be honest rather tasteless, I’m also a bit disappointed about the portion size of the beef brisket for 20 quid.

Had a delicious joint birthday lunch here today. What an excellent experience. Staff could not do enough for us, and the food was cooked perfectly. We received excellent service, particularly from Bec, thank you so much for making it such a memorable day.

What a fantastic place called in for a drink before a boat trip and it looked great so we decided to go back for our evening meal. Our servers Meg, Tash and Ethan were really helpful and friendly and the food was amazing. USDA slab, mac and cheese, onion rings, chips and complimentary popcorn. The restaurant was spotlessly clean. Keep up the good work and thank you.

If I could rate higher I would. The food was fantastic the fajitas were to die for and they made our anniversary so special! This is by far the best steakhouse we have been to and I used to live in Texas. 11/10 stars for the friendliest and most welcoming staff. They gave us a gift for our third anniversary in the form of a “crystal” (glass) bottle which was deeply appreciated. I have a peanut allergy and they were exceptionally careful with the ingredients and walked me through every step with a tablet displaying what was safe.
