I've started using Benefit They're Real! Mascara, which is okaaaay-ish but a bloody nightmare to get off. I've been using coconut oil as a makeup remover for a while but it won't shift this tar-like mascara! I tried baby oil (because I'd heard it worked well and I had bugger all else in the house that would remove it - except maybe WD40). It seems good, but I'm sure I recall people over the years say it's 'bad for you'. A quick Google hasn't really told me why though.
What are your thoughts on baby oil for eye make up remover: excellent or will my eyelashes fall out?

I Second baby oil. It's the only thing that doesn't irritate my sensitive skin and takes off all traces of mascara. Been using it for years

I use Benefit They're Real Mascara. Remove it perfectly with pure organic oils - I am currently using a mixture of 50% castor oil with 50% argan oil, but any oil mixed with castor oil will do. I massage the oils onto my face, and steam off with a hot cloth, removing all my make up including the mascara.
I don't use any other cleansers now, and my skin is looking great, and eyelashes are long and curly. I used to buy Lancome eye makeup remover, but oil is much better and cheaper.

I've given up using my Benefit they're Real mascara because it's so bad to get off. I'd take it off properly (or so I thought) at night then need to do it again in the morning again. Gone back to Blinc mascara.

Why is it crap though, bigbuttons? Genuine question. If it's a case of it contains loads of mineral oil and blocks your pores then it wouldn't matter just to wipe over your eyelashes would it? Or is it actually bad for you? I sometimes use it as it's one of the few eye makeup removers that works, doesn't pull out half my eyelashes and doesn't irritate my eyes.

My mum has been using baby oil to remove all her make up for 40 years and her skin is amazing!

Wow, thanks for the replies. There's some really interesting stuff here.
Bigbuttons, why do you think baby oil is crap? Ive been using it as a body oil since I was 13 - on wet skin when I can afford the time to let it dry, on dry skin when in in a hurry. It's been amazing for me. I use the aloe Vera one and I adore the smell too.
Dustdragon, great tip about massaging and then steaming with a cloth! I'll definitely gave it a go. Where do you get your oils? I have argan oil but it says it's specifically for hair. Not sure about using it in my eyes!

I'm the same, Kateecass. I'll not be getting They're Real again. Too much hassle!
Amelieinoz, I was really happy with my coconut oil as a brilliant remover. It's just this particular mascara that's a nightmare to get off!
Lovethebubbles, that's a great endorsement! I feel better about using it now.

If it works, why not? I use vaseline on the rare occasion I use mascara and then finish off with a baby wipe to get the excess off.

I bought some "Good Things" oil cleanser ( I love their Manuka Honey cleanser) and though it smells gorgeous, it left a really heavy blurry film on my eyes.
The Boots No7 eyemake-up remover is nice (blue one, I got it in my Advent Calender)
Is the Benefits remover worth splashing out on? I know they were doing samples with They're Real mascara when it came out.

I just use organic pure oils - try Amazon or Fushi, they are suitable for massaging over your face and also as a moisturiser. Although like others say you need to experiment to find the best ones for your skin type. Wouldnt use an argan oil you have bought specifically for hair, it will probably have silicones in it.
Loads of threads on here about hot cloth cleansing - mix castor oil with oils suitable for your skin type to cleanse and they will also remove eye make up, so you dont need separate products, and then a few drops of an oil to moisturise - I use rosehip for that.
This is my favourite Argan Oil which I also use on my (very curly) hair to tame it!!

I love the olay one. Tethers on here recommended it in a thread and I could hug her
I wear a lot of eye makeup every day and it's the only one that gets it off and doesn't sting/blur eyes

Benefit They're Real mascara and eye liner really are special cases. Things that work on regular eye makeup don't really apply.
Benefit make a remover specifically for "They're Real" but the reviews on Boots.com indicate it's pretty crap and doesn't work that well.
I, too, have had good success with the blue No 7. There's a Garnier one (they make at least three different ones) that is specifically for waterproof makeup. That's pretty good.
But I have never actually gotten it all off in one go. There's still something there in the morning.

I started using baby oil as a make up remover (I wear liquid eyeliner, mascara and foundation every day) a few months ago and I've found it brilliant. I used to use Liz Earle but can't justify the cost at the moment so was despairing trying to find a cheaper alternative that didn't bring my sensitive skin out in spots.
I'm curious as to why people are saying it's bad - I can't see that anyone has actually answered the OP's question which was WHY is it bad? I want to know too!!!!

Piggy-if you're looking for an alternative to Liz Earle you know about the super drug dupe right? It's even the same colour and comes with a muslin cloth and only about a fiver iirc.

But baby oil is even cheaper (using superdrug own brand), works better than any of the other cheaper dupes I tried (although admittedly haven't tried the one you suggest DameDiazepam!), my skin is at least as good as when I used Liz Earle, so unless someone can tell us WHY it's bad I'm sticking to my cheapo oil til we win the lottery!

I use Clarins Instant Eye Makeup Remover.
I use a waterproof mascara, and it's very good. DD1 wears a lot of eye make up, and she also uses it.
A tip is to put a little on a cotton bud, after you've cleaned the makeup off, and run it over your lower eye rim. You'll be amazed how much is there.

Yes, when I remove the last traces in the morning, I use a cotton bud dipped in remover under the eye. And then I take a cotton pad of micellar water to clean up the residue of that.
I really like the They're Real eye liner - get a good, dramatic cat eye flick that never budges all day - but getting it off is a PITA.
